Target Knows You're Pregnant! (among other things)

            I'm a few days late posting this (about 2 weeks since the article about retailer tracking appeared in the NY Times--though I wasn't so naive to think retailer tracking wasn't happening).  Next time you swipe that frequent shopper card, use your credit or debit card, remember; they're watching you! o.O

Apparently, they can track when a woman has missed her period by analyzing data, thus being able to sneak in coupons for baby related items, whilst making it seem totally normal that they're sending it to you.

Sure, this is a great thing on one hand, seeing as retailers will send coupons and deals specifically relating to your shopping habits/what you actually buy. But really, where is the line at what they can monitor? I don't particularly think it's normal for them to need to know when I've moved, or what other websites I visit online!

Colbert tells this story in a much more humorous way than NY Times, though it is a rather unnerving topic.

I apologise for the lack of updates lately, I have been struggling with some pain from my wisdom teeth (which have finally decided to announce their entrance to the world--14 years after my dentist noticed them growing in).  I've been spending a lot of time trying to find an oral surgeon who isn't CRAZY expensive, seeing as I have NO insurance, and the only funds I have come from my etsy shops (which are not selling enough to pay for tooth extraction, I can tell you that). More debt for this little lady :(  I've been really working my booty off trying to find some freelance design work, to no avail (other than the design contests on prizes.org). 

Anyway, enough with the bad news. Have you heard of Jingit.com? It's a great site, and you can earn up to $40 a month simply by watching commercials and answering a few questions about them.  Now, you do actually have to WATCH the videos, as jingit will pause what's playing if you navigate away from the page. However, nothing is more than 2-3 minutes long, and on average you only spend about 10 minutes a day there.  Jingit.com also has a smartphone app, where you can earn even more by watching videos, and even "checking in" at places (similar to foursquare). I recommend joining now, while the community isn't HUGE, as I'd only assume they will eventually make sign ups more limited.

Since I've been trying to design a lot of things for prizes.org as of late, I have been neglecting my etsy store(s). In my quest to find another place to make money online (because being that my businesses are not doing as well as I'd like, I need all the help I can get!), I stumbled upon prizes.org.

I almost didn't want to blog about this, since it's highly competitive in the graphic design area, but I can't keep good news to myself! 

Basically, people post contests-- anything from helping them name their business, to logo/brand designing, or prizes.org's contests to make a landing page video. The individuals or company put up a certain amount of prize money they're willing to pay for the winnning name, design, video, etc.

So if you're a creative type, or just have a knack for coming up with original names for things, definitely hop on over and check it out! I love it because there are a lot of businesses that need design work done, and I enjoy seeing how I stand up to other graphic artists.

I don't have much today, but I thought I'd stop by just for the sake of keeping my blog updated. I really do have to try harder with updating since I want to start participating in giveaways and things.

I've been doing a lot of work for my fiancé, such as cleaning up his artwork in photoshop so we can get his sketchbooks under way. Otherwise, I've been regathering my thoughts on my jewelry designing, and trying to become inspired. A big help came this weekend when I decided it was time to start a yearly re-reading and re-watching of The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien's stories have always motivated me and inspired me, and now I have tons of ideas in my mind for jewelry I want to create, which will not look like ANYTHING I have already in my shop.

I realised I was not letting ideas come to me in any organic fashion, and instead trying to force things, just to produce for the sake of producing. A huge reason why I opened my graphic design shop was so I could step away from jewelry production, when I started producing things with which I wasn't necessarily happy.

I think my biggest obstacle is etsy, itself. All the information there on selling successfully. requires updating and listing at least an item a day. I just don't think that this is a good idea, because not all of us can produce at that rate. My jewelry takes me a lot of time, as I have to go about my chain work in a slow, manual process, and it takes sometimes upwards of 2-3 hours to complete a chain for a piece. If the piece is chain laden, then it takes almost an entire day to complete one piece of jewelry. Obviously, this is to be expected, however, people also don't want to pay for your time. They want to buy unique jewelry, but want it at factory produced prices. It's disheartening, so I end up becoming very unmotivated and feel the "way bother" attitude come over me.

Anyway. I'll probably be throwing up a few small things here and there just to keep my shop updated, but I'm going to start working on some more elaborate projects. I'm going to purchase myself a soldering iron, and some much needed hammering tools, and a saw blade for my dremel.  I plan to take this all to the next level, far, far away from assemblage, and onto actual creation.

Since I haven't updated in a while, I have a few new items in my store as well! I've been slow to make jewelry, as I opened ANOTHER etsy store, catering to designing banners/avatars for fellow etsians. A lot of us spend a good chunk of our down time pa-doodling around the internet, so why not use that time constructively? How? Earn some extra money!
